My name is Rachel Bee and I live in CT with my husband and 3 gorgeous children, born in 2000, 2002 and 2004. Quite simply I am passionate about birth and parenting.
I want to help future parents achieve as natural a birth as is possible and be informed to make choices about situations that may arise during any stage of their pregnancy, labour and birth.
I want you to be able to claim your birth, make it inspirational and memorable. I want you to be able to trust in your ability and your baby.
My first child was born with medical intervention. He was a posterior labor and I "failed to progress". I was not informed and assigned myself a bed for the duration of my 48 hours! With my second child, I had learned. He too was a posterior labor, and the only thing I sat on was a birth ball occasionally! He was born in two hours with no intervention or pain relief and I truly believe much of this was down to my realisation that I could do this and help this happen. My daughter was a waterbaby, born in Brussels, again, through informed decision, I achieved the birth I wanted, despite coming against hurdles en route!
I originally trained as a school teacher back in 1994, which I gave up on the birth of my second child. I became very involved with my local branch of the National Childbirth Trust, holding the post of chairperson for two years. My husband's job then took us abroad to Belgium and it was here I decided to study for a diploma of Higher Education in Antenatal Education with the NCT and the University of Luton, UK. On our move to the USA in 2005 I became certified as a childbirth educator with ALACE in the USA.When I am not studying or teaching, I like to play with my children, read, play the piano or clarinet, cook, write, knit, listen to music and shop!!!
I keep myself updated by regularly attending workshops and courses for professionals, examples of such are Sheila Kitzinger in November 2005 and I will be attending the Midwifery Today conference in March 2006 I chose to certify with ALACE as I fully believe in their philosophy that "birth is a sacred rite of passage and that it is a woman - centred and woman - directed passage, not an institution centered medical event" This philosophy fits neatly alongside the NCT encompassing all my own passions about the way women should be able to reclaim their birth experience.
